Construction of the North District Phase 2 project along Canyon Crest Drive will continue through the end of the month. Upcoming asphalt maintenance work will impact all traffic on Canyon Crest and those who must travel through the area are advised to review the details provided below.
Asphalt grinding operations will begin on Monday, October 27 and is scheduled to be completed on Tuesday, October 28. The entire width of the vehicle travel lanes on Canyon Crest between University Avenue and Blaine Street will be affected. Work will begin at Blaine Street heading south to University Avenue. To minimize the uneven surface's impacts on pedestrians, scooters, and bicycles, the inside lane(s) will be ground first followed by the outside lane(s). During this phase of work, cross streets and driveways may be blocked for up to 20 minutes as the equipment passes through the area. Additional grinding will take place on Linden Street from Canyon Crest to Lot 25 in the westbound lanes.
Once all grinding for the entire length of Canyon Crest is complete, installing the asphalt overlay will begin Wednesday, October 29 through Friday, October 31. To minimize the uneven surface's impacts on pedestrians, scooters, and bicycles, the paving will be completed starting with the outside lanes first, then the inside lane(s) second. During the paving phase of work, cross streets and driveways may be blocked for up to 3 hours as the equipment passes through the area and the asphalt is cooled and compacted. These locations include Bannockburn's North and South parking lots, Falkirk Apartment complex's east lot off Canyon Crest Drive, Lot 26 entrance on Canyon Crest Drive, and both the east and west Linden Street approaches Canyon Crest Drive.
Temporary pavement markers will be installed with the paving process followed by permanent roadway markings in the following weeks.
During working hours, access to university facilities located along Linden Street including on-campus student housing, Student Recreation Center, Transportation Services, Facilities Services, Environmental Health & Safety, Student Health & Counseling Center, Fleet Services, and Campus Business Services will be accessible from Watkins Drive via the Corporation Yard or from the campus core from Aberdeen Drive.
