The League of American Bicyclists has once again recognized UCR with a Bronze-level Bicycle Friendly University award for 2024 2028, identifying the University’s success in promoting and enabling safe, accessible bicycling on campus.
One new development highlighted in the award application was the formation of a new Micro-Mobility & Pedestrian Advisory Committee which was organized to advocate for safe and equitable active transportation on campus. Other efforts spotlighted were a campus wide safety and awareness campaign, organized bike rides, bikes on bus demonstrations, free bike repairs, free helmet distribution during Bike Month, and a new Loan-A-Lock program. Campus partners working collaboratively on these initiatives include Transportation Services, The Well, The Office of Sustainability, UCR Police Department, and the R’Cycle Co-Op.
"When universities make biking easier, safer, and more accessible, they’re not just helping students get from point A to point B they’re leading the charge in creating a more sustainable future," said Bill Nesper, executive director of the League of American Bicyclists. "By prioritizing better biking, Bicycle Friendly Universities are empowering students and staff to make choices that benefit their health, their environment, and their communities."
