UCR students and select employees can take advantage of free Metrolink tickets. Read on for further details:
Student Program
Metrolink has launched a pilot program that allows any student with valid school identification to obtain a pass at no charge and ride anywhere on the Metrolink system for free. To get your free ticket, download the Metrolink mobile app and register using your school email address. You must verify your account via an email link. If you don’t see the email from Metrolink, be sure to check your spam folder. The pass will appear in your mobile wallet on the app. Just activate it each time you ride before boarding and carry your student ID with you. Free rides will be available for six months or until program funding run out. For more information, see the UCR Student Adventure Pass website.
Employee Program
UCR faculty and staff members that live in the Inland Empire are also eligible for three months of free Metrolink tickets. A pilot program offered through IE Commuter is providing 10-trip tickets for residents of Riverside and San Bernardino Counties. The program is aimed at encouraging more residents to use Metrolink to get around Southern California whether its to commute to work or for leisure travel. Only those that reside in the Inland Empire qualify as IE Commuter is funded by the Riverside County Transportation Commission and San Bernardino County Transportation Authority through sales taxes collected in both counties for transportation improvements.
To participate:
• Visit IECommuter.org and click the “Join Now” button at top of page.
• Follow the steps to create an account. You will need to click “My Account” to add your home address and employer.
• Once logged into your account, click on the “Promotions” link in the menu at top of the page. Click to join the “Free Metrolink Pass Program” and follow the instructions to receive your free tickets.
• Participants must download the Metrolink mobile app to their phone. Metrolink will send an email to validate, so the same email address should be used for creating an IECommuter account.
Participants will receive a 10-trip ticket valid for 60 days from the first date of use. Additional tickets may be ordered during the 90-day window after the other tickets have been used or expired. Participants will be asked to choose a starting and ending station.
